What Is New Steem?

At it's core, New Steem is really just a marketing strategy. Window dressing? Sure. Mass delusion? Well, yes, if you want to be crude. But, often that's what marketing is.

Is it a lie? That's where I draw the line. No, it's not a lie. It's an attitude. It's a decision to overlook the imperfections and label those imperfections as Old Steem.

It's a strategy to move forward. Recognize failure and correct the failure. Recognize excellence and promote excellence.

The platform has excellence. I could enumerate them, but we know most of the technical ones. New Steem doesn't focus on the technical, as such. The technical parts are important. But they do not define excellence.

Car Analogy

I'm not a car expert, but I've heard that although the automatic transmission is more advance than manual transmission, manual transmission is technically more complicated. The idea goes that in some ways, manual transmission is more impressive, from a technical point of view. Innovation lead to a more simple design that people like. Manual (Old) Transmission needed to fall away. Not because it's useless. Manual Transmission is well suited for certain applications. But for mass adoption, Automatic (New) Transmission is a better fit.

It's a willingness to abandon the early adopters. Early adopters can come along, if they are willing to accept the change.

In six months, do we complain about New Steem? Nope. In six months, if we complain, we're complaining about Old Steem. That's a specific, careful future use for Old Steem. I just don't want to hear about New Steem failures.

So New Steem cannot fail? That's correct. It is always presented in the best light. Because that is how we present things we want other people to also enjoy. Do you say, "Ew, this is gross, try it!" Our presentation of New Steem should be myopic. Any failure is applied to Old Steem. It can be addressed there and simultaneously abandoned.

"Hey, I thought distribution was fixed." "Yes, in New Steem it has been fixed. That was only a problem in Old Steem."

"Hey, I thought you dealt with of all the trolls." "Correct, they've been dealt with in New Steem. They only bring people down in Old Steem."

At the same time, while we apply selectively apply mistakes to Old Steem, we can also spin them for New Steem:

No Vision	Specific goals for diverse apps and communities.
Trolls and Complainers	People with a narrative of communicating what needs to change.
Bad UI / Censorship / Slow Development	Opportunity to grow specialized front-ends and/or pull requests for existing ones.
Apps Leaving	Opportunity for expanding to multichain apps.
No tolerance for flags	Embraces downvotes because they protect the reward pool.

Each one of the items above are the same core thing, but spun from the perspective of Old vs. New. E.g., you don't like flags (Old) but you do like the reward pool being protected (New). They are one in the same.

Remember, human organizations are full of imperfections. If you find a perfect organization, then guess what? You cannot join it because if you do, it'll then become imperfect.
