Food, seems like a simple subject but some how it isnt.

Im not a fussy eater and having a country gut with a lining im proud of, means not having a working fridge or freezer isnt affecting the type of food id cook or my eating habits, my partner on the other hand.

Well she was sick for 6 days with some sort of stomach bug. All plans cancelled and god help me if i made her move.

Whilst Sam can and will try most foods, after a day or two she will throw anything that shes even remotely suspect of. Yeah i know wastage. 22449725_10159497889625392_57323440282730175_n.jpg

As a question to the steemit community, anyone have any ideas on building up her immunity or any recipes that makes offal truly delicious ??- She loves pate but otherwise wont touch the stuff which is a missed opportunity to me.

On to dinner aka Kiwi Kai. Tonight be have a smoked bacon hock that must be used or will be thrown and what is known through out New Zealand as 'The soup mix' The one grandma recognises. Beyond that its potatoes and i think we have some old vegetables lieing around.. 22449629_10159497888885392_6735917038415914988_n.jpg

Our camper is on gas, so long time cooking is a pain, we are looking into other options for cooking but that will be another post.

Today location is Resthill park, it is a reserve/sports feild in Hamilton, ive lost my teeth in the surf in Tauranga so we have made the trip here for some new ones. This man is just vain enough to admit he likes having a smile :) 22489783_10159497888765392_1744841431632611048_n.jpg

Tonights recipe:

Basic recipe that seems to be universal: lentil soup mix and hock up to the boil then leave to soak (camper living means better to wait longer and bring to the boil every half an hour)

Sam likes to add bay leafs in hers, salt and pepper to taste.

Add your veges depending on how you like it, we either grate them to nothing for a smother faster soup or my favorite is nice and chunky but soft with more of a broth.

Lesson we learnt recently, you can put to much celery and pea and ham soup done well isnt as easy as it sounds.

Happy travelling camping and general freeman living
