Topic: God's Ways
Bible Reading: John 14: 1–7 (The Holy Bible, English Standard Version®. Copyright © 2016 by Crossway Bibles.)
“Let not your hearts be troubled. Believe in God; believe also in me.
In my Father’s house are many rooms. If it were not so, would I have told you that I go to prepare a place for you?
And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and will take you to myself, that where I am you may be also.
And you know the way to where I am going.”
Thomas said to him, “Lord, we do not know where you are going. How can we know the way?”
Jesus said to him, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.
If you had known me, you would have known my Father also. From now on you do know him and have seen him.”
Word for Today: "...I am the way, and the truth, and the life..."– v. 6.
Inspiring Commentary:
Our Lord was on the verge of His impending sacrificial and atoning death on the cross. Judas had already committed himself to betray Him and in spite of his boasting, Peter would deny Him thrice. It was only Thomas who implicitly asked to know what our Lord meant and where He was going.
Someone had remarked that because Thomas was always asking questions, he got answers for which all of us are benefiting today. Another question was when he refused to believe that our Lord was risen, till He came and showed him His wounds physically to which he humbly replied: "My Lord and my God" (John 20:28).
We should believe that there are answers to our questions, for God does not want us to be in the dark about His ways with us. The Yorubas have a saying that whoever asks for direction, will never get lost. Some of us will know of a pastor who had a former Vice-president of Ghana as a follower and also big following in South Africa whose building collapsed and killed some of the devotees not too long ago. Many of these had opportunities to find out the truth or otherwise of the assertions of this pastor, but they would not dare to question a man of God.
Prayer: Lord, I know that You do not wish me to follow blindly; please help me to seek understanding from You and to be patient to wait for your answers.
Thanks for reading.
