A couple a years ago, I wrote on the above; yet again I have to write.
The nation of my birth, a land of milk and honey!
But no longer so! Blood in Plateau, smokes at the [Lagos] Bridge, cries from Adamawa, heard so loudly in Asaba,
plight of the poor worsening,
babies smile not knowing the father's pain.
Lost in thought over what has become of our nation.
Fathers of old and their efforts thrown to the wind! We sing the anthem ..'the labours of our Heroes past shall never be in vain; is this still true?
Now, we stand watching to see the denuouement of this storyline.
Who could have envisaged all of this present day troubles? The youths are surnamed 'lazy', the old cling on to power!
Where is our strength, where is the history we have so far pride ourselves in? Was it in vain that our sports men brought home glory and global reckoning?
A nation where values are no longer valued, nor antecedents being emphasized. Its almost 60years since independence was attained. A man at 60 with nothing tangible to show can only be best described as.., [don't expect me to fill up that ellipsis].
Why the Writer may be so worried about the nation's polity, his primary concern is on how the younger generation can grow into relevance. In an era where children detest discipline, with the dearth of reading culture, social media now defining their times, and Parents pay little or no attention to their wards. A dispensation where everyone is busy--too busy to take note of the decrepit state of morality. Where a girl child seems excited dancing naked in the musical videos! Is this what our children were born to become? deep sighs.
Its time we turn our attention and channel our resource to building the young ones--teenagers and teens alike! Give your time to these precious ones, invest in them, show them how great they can be, lead them through the right path, do not exploit them for their naivety and ignorance, be avuncular just to pull them nearer to God! To me, this is a Ministry!
