Harmful traditional and cultural practices in nigeria. Episode 2(son preferences)

I basically decided to talk about the ones that involve kids and gender to enhance my previous posts on discrimination.
According to an asian saying "bringing up a girl child is like watering the neighbours garden"you guys should have an idea of where of where am heading by now
GENDER DISCRIMINATION AMONG OUR KIDS (son preferences):
In our nigerian culture and tradition even till date this habit is still a deeply rooted structure in our society. The main reason for this is the belief that the family lineage can only be carried on by the male children all this belief at the detriment of the physical,mental and social health of the female child due to the child been neglected and deprived of the love,respect infact that child is taged been disadvantaged from birth and she grows up with that mentality all her rights in the family including in heritance and every other entitlements,the value,quantity and quality of parental care is basically determined by the gender of the child in those days most female children are even deprived of education due to the shallow minded belief of "a womans place is always in the kitchen" and all knowledge acquired will be taken into another family.
CONSEQUENCES: all the practices at the end results to little or no value accorded to the girl child in the society.this is a manifest violation of women human rights. Thereis this intense pressure on women to produce (as if they are the baby factory and they have the abilty to choose what colour gender and look of the child) all this is one of the major reasons for domestic violence,divorce,death,sex selective abortions and abandonment you see a case where after a woman has given birth to a number of girl children and the husband takes his wife foe child delivery and it is announced to him that its a girl child the man disappears and leaves his wife with the new born baby stranded at the hospitality and the woman is left with the responsibility of all the kids and those female children might just end up been sold out to marriage at an early stage by thier parents in other to take off the burden from thier shoulders this leads me to my next topic EARLY AND FORCED CHILD MARRIAGE.
A huge thanks to those ladies who refused to be intimidated and discriminated they helped our parents to see that girl child's aint useless afterall and that we can always make something out of nothing. My other vote of thanks goes to those women who where able to stand and start up gender equality and empowerment programs. And of course my last vote of thanks goes to my fellow steemians who took their time to read this to the end thank you. This is my own medium and mini way of campaigning against girl child discrimination in nigeria your upvotes and resteems goes a long way thanks.
