Some weeks ago Nintendo has announced their newest Nintendo Switch gadgets (or game/toy/whatever), the Nintendo Labo. In fact they want you to play with cardboard.

But Nintendo Labo is more then just a cardboard box we all have played with as we were 5 years old. The concept behind it is that young children should combine cardboards (and handicrafts) with playing video games, to bring back creativity to childrens (or even adults, because this is actually pretty cool). But let's take a closer look on what you get.

Nintendo has announced two different sets:
  1. Toy-Con 01: Variety Kit (69.99$)
  2. Toy-Con 02: Robot Kit (79.99$)

Each set contains different pre-pierced cardboards and other attachments to build the "machines", and the software for the Nintendo Switch. Set 01 let you build a RC car, a fishing rod, a house, a motorbike, and a piano, while set 02 let you build a "robo suit".

Actually I think the concept behind it is really cool. It brings back creative elements to children while enjoying playing video games. On the other side I am asking myself, if this is really need? I mean, children should be able to be creative with different stuff like cardboards, pen and paper etc. without being dependent on video games. Also it is questionable if the price is adequate for a bit of cardboard and a "smaller" software for it. I assume the interest in it will just hold for a shorter time, so that 70-80$ per set is quite a number.

What do you guys think? Will Labo be a hit or do you think Nintendo has overpriced it?
