While Nissan is busy teasing the upcoming 370Z replacement, the company is still keeping its lips closed on the future of the GT-R, despite assuring us that its flagship will not be left behind. And the render we have here showing a mid-engined Godzilla helps discuss that possibility.
Since the current R35 Nissan GT-R has been with us for 13 years, there has been quite a stir in terms of the future iteration of the machine.
And most of them revolve around two main themes, namely hybridization and moving to a mid-range setup. To be honest, both of them have a reasonable chance of morphing into something we're about to see in the showroom.
Given current market trends and the fact that the GT-R has been described as a game console on wheels thanks to its electronics, it wouldn't surprise anyone if Nissan introduces some level of electrification. That would add weight, of course, but the current generation has already shown that engineers can work with it.
As for the mid-engine transformation, this could be seen as a high-end move and the fact that the R35 has gone from being a killer supercar on a budget to a machine that costs money and a supercar inside. . A higher level of NISMO to use as the basis for this illustration could help us with this process. In the visual transformation, super-render cars with a digital brand are borrowed from the side air intakes of the Porsche 918 Spyder, which is why the hybrid issue is mentioned again.
The mid-engined Corvette, on the other hand, has proven that moving the engine doesn't necessarily mean sending the price through the roof. Perhaps the next-generation Nissan GT-R will stick to this path. . Anyway, we should get at least some official guidance on this soon and we will be back with them as soon as they arrive.
