The Master of Wisdom Ben Sira exalted in his book the work of God. The glory, the perfect fame, corresponds only to the Lord because he created everything in the universe according to his perfect and eternal wisdom taught to us Ben Sira, the universe is fundamentally an harmony, and just as the works that we see in the universe are great, like the sun or the moon, the works that are hidden from the perception of man are greater.
And this secret wisdom that is the source of everything in the universe, accompanied humanity from its beginnings, and manifested itself in the lives of the most illustrious men in the history of the chosen people; and one of these men was Noah, a righteous and devoted man before the Lord, and the author of the book made a simple and brief comment about him:
"NOAH, found just and perfect,
renewed the race in the time of devastation.
Because of his worth there were survivors,
and with a sign to him the deluge ended.
A lasting covenant was made with him,
that never again would all flesh be destroyed" Ben Sira 44:17-18.
The sacred scriptures tell us something more about Noah in the book of Genesis. The Bible tells us that Noah lived in the days when there were giants on earth and men on average lived about a thousand years. But God saw that the wickedness of men was great and he regretted having done mankind, but he saw in Noah a special grace.
God then ordered Noah to build an ark, because the Lord would consume the wickedness of men with a flood: "I am going to bring floodwaters on the earth to destroy all life under the heavens, every creature that has the breath of life in it. Everything on earth will perish. But I will establish my covenant with you, and you will enter the ark" Genesis 6:17-18.
And after allowing the flood and saving Noah and his family, God established a new covenant with humanity, and its symbol is the rainbow: "I have set my rainbow in the clouds, and it will be the sign of the covenant between me and the earth" Genesis 9:13.
Noah with his life taught us that in the fear of God is the beginning and end of all wisdom.
