The Norwegian newspaper DN (Daily Economics) claim that the music streaming site owned by Jay Z have paid disproportionate royalties and inflating audience figures for Beyonce and Kanye West.
Tidal denies the allegations.
DN claims to have obtained a hard drive containing further extensive data from an unnamed source that indicates that these sums were excessive. To support the claim, the paper enrolled the help of reseachers of NTNU (Norwegian university of science and technology) who have published their own report.
Their analysis indicates that more then 320 million false play records had been logged for the two albums, affecting more than 1,7 million accounts.
A spokesman for the University added;
" Our researches has used advanced statistical analysis methods to reach their conclusion. Due to the targeted nature and extent of the manipulation, it is very unlikely that this manipulation was solely the result of a code-based bug or other anomalies"
their study said.
Now, why is this important news?
It's important because decentralized streaming services is in the making.
Opus and Voise are two decentralized music platforms which will run on the 100% transparent and immutable distributed ledger technology. No more Jay Z's stealing money from smaller artists. No more third party taking a cut. All the revenue goes to the creators. And that's why this is so important. It shows that we need this technology.
