Treasure hunting in Norway (I)

in norway •  6 years ago  (edited)

The wreck of Dutch merchant ship "Akerendam", which sank outside Ålesund in Norway during its maiden voyage in 1725 (neither the captain Nicolaas de Roy nor the crew of 200 survived), its still a destination for treasure hunters. The ship was loaded with gold and silver coins and found by some lucky divers in the 1970s. The coins are spread all over the seabed, and even today divers do their happy hits when finding Dutch and Spanish gold coins , each worth app 500 dollars. The wreck site is on the north side of Runde in Sunnmøre. The photos show the finders, the wreck site (Runde) and the sailing plan to Batavia, which never was realized since the ship got lost at Runde in Mid-Norway.
