What America thinks - guns and NRA

Debating points

  1. Guns don't kill people, people kill people
  2. Only thing that can stop a bad guy with guns is a good guy with guns.
  3. more people are killed by handguns than rifles so are we going to ban those next?
  4. Arming teachers in wake of school shootings.
  5. Does banning guns stops with banning AR-15's alone? or could it be a threat to the 2nd which has most law abiding gun owners worried.
  6. Example of Britain where shooting incidents have gone down since they implemented stricter gun laws.
  7. Example of Australia where mass shooting have become nil since they enacted strict gun controls there.
  8. I really want to hear it from people than the media who twists the fact on what the nation feels.

These are a few points that comes to my mind but please don't limit to these points alone. Let your emotions out.

What makes America great is that although we are all divided on this issue but we still have the freedom to express our minds and have a debate and hopefully by the end of it we understand each other a little better.

May America and fellow Americans be the winner of this debate.

As a conservative Canadian, I wrote a post on control, you might find interesting.

Hi, Thanks for suggesting this. Was a pretty nice read. I believe that common sense gun control should be ok. But we need to bring both sides on board. The ones against versus the ones for it. Currently we have grave misgivings amongst both sides regarding what the other side wants. Unless we have a debate on this issue, i do not foresee any conclusion any time soon.

I think the entire focus on gun control, should be on how to develop the legal framework to decide, when certain individuals have to loose some freedom, as a preventive measure, based up certain patterns of behavior.

You could amend the constitution to have a quota system. If we could guarantee, that no more than 10% of society would be eligible for gun confiscation, do to reasons of concern, it might satisfy those that worry the government wants to take away all guns, in preparation for a fascist take over.

Sorry, I didn't upvote before. I only have so many to give out at once, but I appreciate you reading and providing a good response. I think we need to figure out intelligent ways to intervene with individuals of concern. I think we could get both side to support some form of intervention, when it comes to crazy people. If the democratic push for increasing restrictions for the average gun owner, it's going to fail.

I am happy to get some one who feels the same way as me. No worries on the up vote thing. I feel sometimes that the current democrats don't get the art of deal making. A deal can only be struck when every 1 feels they got something out of it. You cannot take a high stand and expect others to bow to you.

Very true, while driving to office today, I was listening to public radio and they were having people express their thoughts on the same issue. What I heard most people say is they are ok with laws like back ground checks or some licensing regulations as long as it left the second amendment alone. So I completely agree, it has to be a comprise of something bad to happen. It cannot be how some dems are saying.
