Find out surprising facts about the world’s borders. All travel fans will  be shocked to learn how long the international borders have been there  for.  The oldest border in North America was set in 1763 between New York  State and Quebec. The oldest border in the New World was set by the 1494  Treaty of Tordesillas. The oldest border in the world is the one  dividing Andorra from France and Spain, drawn in 1278. The overall  average border year of birth for Europe is a whole lot younger than  that: 1777. Asia’s oldest border divides Turkey from Iraq and was  defined by a treaty signed in 1639 when the Ottoman Empire sacked  Baghdad. Years of colonization have changed and shaped the borderlines  in Africa. We don’t see any lines in Australia because it is and has  always been the only country on its continent. 7 countries sliced up  Antarctica like a pie. 33.6% of the world’ borders are younger than a century, and about half  of all the current international dividing lines were set in the 20th  century. The world’s borders keep moving and changing.
