The bomb, at a magnitude of 50 megawatons (1,500 times the atomic bombs dropped on Hiroshima and Nagasaki together), exploded in an experiment in Russia's North Sea. The explosion was visible in the eye for a distance of 1,000 km, and its mushroom cloud reached a height of 64 km.
