I use https://www.windandsolar.com windmills.
Thanks to inflation this Brake would cost $100 plus shipping. Also the bought brake is either on or off, while this Brake that I will show how to make allows the brake to work on each individual phase. That means you can turn off one or two phase and still produce electricity on the phase that are on.
I have used three three-way AC switches. One switch for each phase.
The bottom left screw connector is labeled "COMMON". The two screw connectors above are travellers.
This is the feed from the windmill. Because the windmill is an alternator with fixed neodymium permanent magnets. AC is produced. There are 3 phases.
Each phase wire from the windmill is connected to the "COMMON" terminal of the switch. I used #10 THHN AWG and #10 connectors.
Connecting to the traveller screw directly above the COMMON is where to connect power to the block square rectifier. This will change the AC to DC for battery charging.
There are three yellow connectors, one for each phase of AC input power into the rectifier. The black and red wire above are DC out.
On the top right side of each switch, is where the ground is connected. This ground must go directly to a ground rod pounded into the ground. Last time I connected it to the battery ground and that did not work too well.
I temporarily have the grounds from the Brake Switches connected to a piece of #8 AWG Aluminum wire.
The #8 AWG grounding wire is connected directly to and electrode driven into the ground.
Because my windmill tower also has a grounding rod at the base and the frame is grounded to that rod, the ground between the windmill and the switches travels through the Earth.
The windmill spins!
The windmill stops when all three 3-way switches are pushed to the down position the brake is applied!
Now to make the wiring a lot better and finish the project! This Brake costs about $30 to make.
The windmill stops!
It looks like you live in a very pleasant area surrounded by vast empty land. I think you must have avoided the problem of noise and air pollution. And the wind must be available in sufficient (if not abundant) quantities to be utilised as a power source.
