Minnesota's measles outbreak is now up to 22 cases. 14 were cases acquired abroad. 8 were domestic cases linked to the imported cases. This current outbreak isn't as bad as the 2017 outbreak in the state which had 75 cases, but it is about as bad as the 2011 outbreak which had 26 cases. Normally Minnesota only has ~0-4 measles cases a year.

The MMR vaccination rate for kindergarteners in the state fell a bit during the pandemic and stood at 89% last year. Ideally it should be above 95% for herd immunity.

Ohio's measles outbreak is now up to 46 cases in the Columbus area. All unvaccinated children. 19 were hospitalized. 33 of the cases are in children 2 and younger.

This is Ohio's largest measles outbreak since 2014. This outbreak began in daycares.

Expect more measles cases in the future. The pandemic resulted in a brief respite from measles, but there are now several measles epidemics globally. For the US we have the highest number of measles cases nationally since before the pandemic.

The MMR vaccine is highly effective, but measle vaccination rates have declined in recent years. Measles is extremely transmissible and ideally for herd immunity vaccination rates should be 95% or higher.
