The artistic director said The Last Supper wasn't the inspiration after the fact, but it appears that the producers had literally billed it as exactly that before the performance itself, publicly.

They've since taken it down and replaced it with a different description, but wayback machines and screenshots still capture things on the internet.

Say what you want about Dionysus or Bacchus, but when it comes to intentions, they already telegraphed da Vinci as major inspiration prior to the performance even.

I'm not offended and I'm not even Christian, but the pagan excuse as exclusive inspiration seems to be contradicted by the producers themselves before it became a thing everyone was talking about. And sure, it's bad taste for an event meant to be globally unifying.

And that's before getting into testicles. Haha
