Vlog 109 | Can An $18 Lav Mic Improve Your Audio??

in onelovdtube •  6 years ago

In this video I test out an $18 lav mic kit I got from amazon to determine if it acutally improves audio quality. I also talk about how I've been having trouble sleeping.

here is a link to the mic kit that I got from amazon https://amzn.to/2JKDAhN

Take a listen to both sets of audio, one with the built in mic on my sl2 camera and the other the lapel mic. I think the Lapel mic sounds a little clearer and with a bit less background noise. I was listening on my JBL 305 studio monitors which have a fairly good response. The SL2 mic picks up a lot more of the sound of the room and so you get some inadvertent comb filtering do to the echo. The Lav mic seems to come in a bit hotter too even with the SL2s auto level and so the signal to noise ratio is definitely a lot better despite the fact that the noise level is only slightly lowered. If I had lowered the volume of the lav mic while editing to match the volume of the SL2 mic further noise reduction would be achieved.

Let me know what you think, leave a comment below!!

As for me, they can be ok but I think that for professional use rather bought something more expensive

I suppose but the components on a $100 lav mix are not very different than an $18 mic so it’s hard to say.

I love your every vlog man..u do awesome job..keep it up :)

I hear the difference - even on the laptop's built in speakers

The difference is definitely clear, although im kind of on the fence about which is better. The environment definitely matters a lot

Yes it is actually a good question. The mic has more bottom which makes your voice less "tinny" but maybe the camera has a slight bit more clarity. Maybe you could try to hi-pass the mic a bit and see what happens?
