Steemit open mic week 84 - Paper thin - Original song

in openmic •  7 years ago  (edited)

Hello Steemiains!

This is my entry for this week's Open mic :)

Here are the lyrics:

I don't want remember
that day back in September
had no more hands to play
no final card cliché

You looked for new beginnings
I tried to find new meaning
the bright new shiny wins
forget it all

but I heard
every word
unspoken
I gave myself away
took all that I could

and then I heard
every word
in silence
I lost myself within
my skin was paper thin...

Not many tears have fallen
not many memories remain
so many pieces lost
so many lives uncrossed

My pride behind the fences
I reap the consequences
I try to reach outside
but still I hide

And I heard
every word
unspoken
I gave myself away
took all that I could

and then I heard
every word
in silence
I lost myself within
my skin was paper thin...

I'm sooo excited to finally be able to share this! I've been absent from open mic for a while now, mostly because of time constraints but also because I've been having a difficult time writing music lately.

A couple weeks ago I managed to write this song, but I wanted to record it using loops, so I had to take some time to work out how to make it sound cool. Finally, I finished this at 5 AM and so, here it is :) I hope you enjoy it!!

I'll see you on my next post!

It was also so Super Cool 😎😎😎 how you looped in more and more.

Hey @eventspeaker!
Thank you so much!!
I'm really happy you like both the sound and the song!
I do agree, it's sad but in a good way :)
Awesome that you enjoy the looping as well!

1st time I was just listening to it, I didn't see you do it. Then when I watched the video and saw you just add it all together in one go. I was amazed! That is definitely some talent and a great ear for how it all works together on the fly.
Brilliant.

😆 thank you so much! I'm glad you noticed all of the details!

Amazing performance man, congrats!

Hey @elfranz!
Thank you very much! :)

You are a master of looping, incredible how it builds up and layer vocals, glad to see you back at opennmic and wishing all the very best. My partner has installed a looper by software and practising. I never thought how much training they require. ☘️☘️☘️☘️ Best of lucks

Hey @yidneth!! Thank you so much for your kind words!

I'm not close to being a master of looping but I thank you very much for saying so! :)
There is Soo much more to learn about it!

It does require a lot of training, especially timing wise, but If your partner gets enough practice in, he'll be doing it as well in no time!! Best of luck and to you as well!! :D

Oh he does have that sense of the beat... But I am clumsy and risk to do mess, so it is me the one requiring to learn. I tried already, it is fun. Thanks for the good wishes. I did not do entry this week, so tired, maybe next

Oh! I see! Yes it is really fun.
The easiest way to learn it is through making beats while trying to maintain a tempo, the more you do it, the easier it gets hehe. It's more difficult if you start with Melody or harmony because the tempo is harder to keep that way!

I hope to see your next entry soon! :)

Incredible @luisferchav Amazing performance man!

Hey @builtinfire! Thank you very much for your kind words! :)

Hallo!!
Thanks! I will check out your entry for sure!! :)

A great song and great voice, but everything is already said by the other 41 :) lol... I would use a little less chorus on the voice though.. :)

Keep up the good work !!!

Thank you!! :)

Wow, that was incredible! I started using looping at the end of last year and use it quite a bit in my live shows. This weekend just past has been brilliant because I've watched two live artists using looping and now you as well in your video - I can see that I'm only tickling the surface of the possibilities - you've inspired me!

Oh wow, that's a really high compliment! Thank you so much for your kind words!

I agree, looping has great possibilities!

Reading that I've inspired you makes my heart soar with joy! :D

Fåaaaarq! That was brilliant bro! As in , the song itself is a fantastic song!
I also dug the way you did the looping, seemlessly in the build of the song making it very musical.
Normally artists that do looping take a long time to build the layers before they initiate the actual song, which isn't very musical as far as songcraft goes. That's why I enjoyed the way you did it.
I was early in the looper scene in the early 2000's, but stopped doing it because I didn't like being locked into one time signature and also when I realised I could play all the instruments I liked simultaneously, but I'm starting to get back into it again...
Anyway, great to see someone do it in an artful way and still honour the song itself. That takes great talent.
Well done mate!
Blessings and smiles
in joy

Wow brother, this is really high praise coming from you! Thank you so much!!

That's exactly why it took me so long to release this, I love looping, but it can be a little tedious for the listener if you take a minute to build the layers, I have been trying to master my tempo so that I can record anything anytime.

As you might know it's way easier to keep track of the tempo if you record the beat at the beginning and then go for everything else, but sometimes that's it's not as musical as I want, and for this song I wanted to start small and build I the right order, so it took some time to figure out the order and a lot of time to master the timing of everything I wanted to do hehe.

I can't wait to see what you do with looping, you're already a beast at what you do!!!! 😀
