OpenYGO's Story

in openygo •  8 years ago  (edited)

This history will concentrate around the creation of the OpenYGO project. If you want to "pre-story" - how began my Yu-Gi-Oh adventure, I will write such a text.

The YGOPro engine has changed a lot for fans of this card game for kids. They didn't have to be used by Konami, which released a million different versions.

YGOPro was free, constantly updated and contained everything the average player expected.

1) Yu-Gi-Oh!

Yu-Gi-Oh cards ... This is not the same game that was released 15-20 years ago. To make a "Hype" on a product, every moment they modified everything that was possible. Some cards that were limited to one in 2004 often lost their limit after many years, they just evolved so quickly that nobody wanted to use that cards, they were too weak.

At YGOPro (Percy Mod) there were maniacs like me who forced play using old card rules.

This is the first reason OpenYGO was created.

2) Konami

Konami is a company that likes to shoot themselves in the foot ;)

Of course, every company wants to make a profit, but often also a good reputation. Unfortunately, Japanese companies don't like players.

Well - people may not want to buy 40+ games of Yu-Gi-Oh ... after YGOPro is better and for free. So they decided to attack the developers to destroy alternative clients.

This is the second reason for OpenYGO.

3) This is OpenYGO!

The community gives the engine, where you can create the whole game. I want to give the engine the content. This will allow us to create a new game, but with very similar rules.

My project involves creating graphics and playing cards. Cards should be balanced as far as possible, "calculated" so that none card is too strong. They are also based on the original version of YGO (the DM / GX generation).

4) Completion

Of course, as it is a FLOSS project, it does not have the money :) But as you have time and capacity, we would be happy to welcome you to the team. Drawing even one graphic brings us closer to the end goal!

See you in the next post :)
