So about an hour ago at work, I was going about doing my job. When a customer approaches to tell me that his wedding ring fell off his hand down through the grates below.
To explain: Where I work, a massive Carwash with 28 stalls for people to pull in and wash their cars manually. Beneath every stall is what is called a sump. A large trench for all the dirt, soap and water to drain down.
My job is to maintain and keep the Carwash clean for customer use. Well anyways, this dude was obviously in a bit of a panic, asking if there is anything we can do to retrieve it. Assuring me that he has to get his $1500 ring back.
Now keep in mind that I have no obligation to help. I could’ve told him to talk to the cashiers or give him the number to the head office and wash my hands of it. Screw that! I opened up the grate, handed the guy a shovel and I took a hose and we shifted through the black sludge he shoveled out from this 6 foot deep trench.
It took us about 5 - 10 minutes but we found it! I rinsed it off with the hose and handed it to the man. Whom was super grateful, he wanted to do something to return the favour. Asking if management was around so he could give me kudos to them. He was just like ‘there must be something I can do’. I said “nah man, you don’t gotta do anything. It’s Christmas, no worries.”
To be honest, I would have helped any time of the year because I hate losing things myself and don’t like seeing others lose stuff down that stupid sump. Frankly, I was just glad that we were able to find that ring as quick as we did. The odds of never finding it were much greater in reality.
Anyways, thought I should share that positive story with everyone during this time of giving and good will to all. Religious or not.
