It's an exciting new year, 2018. It is a year packed with many new opportunities to advance in life. But the result will not be the same for everyone. It is only those who learn to recognise and grab as many opportunities as possible that will smile at the end as a result of how much they will be able to achieve this year.

Everywhere you turn to in life, there is an opportunity. Personal and societal problems stare at us always. Then, there must be a solution. And, for each problem solved, an opportunity is utilized. Problems in life, therefore, are great opportunities to create impacts, produce legitimate solutions and make meaningful income.

Success cannot be made if problems are not solved. Also, opportunities cannot come if you do not have the mind’s eye to discover these problems and find strategic solutions to them. There lie the opportunities. To find or discover a problem, therefore, discover a problem. Where there are no problems, there are no opportunities.

The challenge faced by many people, however, is the inability to recognize problems and hence, opportunities. You are not alone in this if you find yourself in this kind of situation. Today, I will be discussing with you a few strategic steps to recognizing opportunities.

So, how can you discover an opportunity or opportunities?
To identify an opportunity, aside from identifying the problem(s), you must bury the idea of meeting perfection at the very first start. No, don’t expect that. In fact, I’m dead to excuses of waiting for a perfect time. Great opportunities may not sound so nice at first, but may later turn out to be hidden pearls, waiting to be tapped. If something sounds like a great idea, go for it. That is an opportunity.

Also, to discover an opportunity, leverage on how to fix present issues using what is available and around you. Often times, I have used only my cell phone to design flyers for my virtual events. That’s because I couldn’t afford a professional design. Centre your attention on what is present, while thinking of what is possible in future.

Additionally, critically study failed attempts at solving a problem. There must have been attempts in the past at tackling that problem. All you have to do is to investigate failed attempts to that effect and see how to make an opportunity out of that.

Furthermore, being social and inquisitive helps in identifying an opportunity. You cannot know it all by always being to yourself every time, no socialization, no listening to the news, no current affairs! No! it will not work. The social media is a great place to go for latest, up-to-date information. Being social is a great way to discovering what works and how to leverage available opportunities.

With this idea, I do believe you will be able to recognize not just opportunities, but great opportunities in life, henceforth.
