Optical Manipulation

in optics •  7 years ago

Light posseses energy that could be imparted to microparticles. Optical forces are used to manipulate very small objects. This is done by using very focused light beam. This technique is very useful in biophysics and cell biology.

This was discovered by Ashkin and his colleagues in Bell Laboratories and Lucent Technologies.
