Let's talk more about Scaling and Polishing...

Do you have bleeding gums during or not during when you brush?

Do you have bad breath or smelling mouth and you don't know what could be the cause?

Do you have mobile teeth or teeth that are shaking and painful??

Do you have holes or cavities on your teeth?

Do you have sensitive teeth?

Do you have discolored teeth or brownish coatings on or around your teeth??

If you have any of the above or more, then it's time you get Scaling and Polishing done.

Scaling and polishing is a dental procedure where plaque and calculus (tartar) which are dirts are removed with dental instruments for an oral cavity. Dirts in this case are dental plaque which is a biofilm or mass of bacteria( such as Streptococcus mutans ,Actinomyces Israeli and Lactobacillus) that grows on surfaces within the mouth.

Dental plaque is also known as microbial plaque, oral biofilm. Calculus (tartar) is composed of both inorganic (mineral) and organic (cellular and extracellular matrix) components. The mineral proportion of calculus ranges from approximately 40–60% and consists primarily of "calcium phosphate" crystals organized into four principal mineral phases, listed below. This explains why they are extremely hard and difficult to eliminate with just brushing.

1)Hdroxyapatite, Ca5(PO4)3OH,
2)whitlockite, Ca9(Mg,Fe)(PO4)6(PO3OH),
3)Octacalcium phosphate, Ca8H2(PO4)6.5H2O
4)Brushite, CaHPO4·2H2O.

Below are clinical pictures of patients seen in my clinic before and after they had their scaling and polishing done.

Like seriously, and they think it's fancy. Well, Will keep on spreading the dental word 😀. Thanks bro @nairadaddy. I actually used the tag but forgot to use the picture. I won't nextime

Thanks Doctor B for this informative piece. At least carrying out scaling and polishing once in three to four month is not a bad idea.

The dental therapist advice every six months.

You are highly welcome my brother @kenneth56. It's not a bad idea at all. Thanks for stopping by

Gigi adalah unsur utama yang membuat percaya diri ketika tersenyum

Ehrmm well I appreciate you coming by @murazriksi91 although don't understand what you wrote.

Sadly enough, we don't place priority on our oral hygiene in this part of the world. Hardly can you see a Nigerian walk into a hospital just to do an oral check up. It's not important until it becomes severe

In fact, I should add this your comment to the main post coz its just the gospel truth. Thanks bro @lemmybe

Continue with this gospel of dental awareness. Oral health care is just as important as any other part of the body. A solution to oral problems sometimes have effect on other ailments in the body. But people don't know.

Hello @thelovejunkie

Do you have bad breath or smelling mouth and you don't know what could be the cause?

I have a relative who have this in abundance hut he hardly agrees he has it. That's the point. Will a lot of people having this issue owe up?

The funny thing is they suffer all sorts from bad breath to bleeding gums yet they refuse to admit it. Well, I hope his teeth doesn't start falling off one after the other cos that's definitely next. Try and keep speaking to him dear @eurogee
