My first time in Oregon I stopped at a gas station in the middle of nowhere late at night. I was about to get out of my car when a big guy starts pounding on my window. I panicked and told him to go away. He said he worked there. I was hesitant to roll down my window until I saw his uniform. He explained to me that it was his job to fill up my gas tank. No one ever told me about Oregon having a gas service. It was nice to find out.
Now the gas service is being phased out. Why? Other than gambling and scenery that was one of the best things about Oregon. And the answer is I don't know why. It's a bummer. So some stations still pump your gas for you and some you have to pump yourself. They are in transition.
