Why you Should Hire Freelancers BEFORE you Get Clients (Build a Digital Marketing Agency)

Here is a true story (which I am not very proud of) that happened to me:

Everything began when I closed a client on the phone for a project. I felt amazing, the money was paid up front, and I already had it in my PayPal account. The deadline for the project was set.

What you need to know is that I always had the philosophy to run a business in a way that I don’t have to do the actual work myself. Does this sound lazy?

No, what I mean is that I never wanted to spend hours of my time building websites or delivering some service while I could easily outsource it. Instead, my goal was to focus on finding clients and closing sales or essentially taking care of the things that bring money to the business.

So after closing this particular client, I had to find a freelancer to do the work for me. I didn’t look for one before, because I thought I could take care of this once the project is closed.

What happened next was horrible. I tried to hire freelancers, but after several interviews, I still couldn’t get a fitting candidate. The clock was ticking and the deadline was coming closer.

After half of the project time was over already (along with some very stressful days) I finally found somebody who was able to deliver. The problem was this person couldn’t make it on time anymore.

In the end, I had to discount the client because I was not able to complete the project within the agreed upon timeline. My profit after paying the freelancer was almost zero. I decided to never get into this situation again!
