22 year old Balwinder Singh appeared to have died of drug overdose. A video of his grief-stricken mother crying beside his dead body has gone viral. According to Avtar Singh, who recorded the incident on video, the local youth are majorly on ‘Chitta’ – a cocktail of drugs.
In Punjab, drug epidemic is the biggest problem – not jobs or corruption. In the 1980s, a violent separatist insurgency used to be the number one problem in the state; it's plausible that the political situation is to be blamed in part.
I live near punjab in ambala so I know the situation there. Here due to unemployment people started selling afeem, cocain and other drugs.
They are mainly targeting the youth here. Police also know about these things but they don't take any serious action as police don't want to loose their jobs. There are many powerful people behind this business.
