Everybody's battle has a cause. We fight for reason. And no matter how many times you tell yourself otherwise, not being involved, doesn't make you a peace-maker, just as going to church every Sunday doesn't make you a Christian.
In his book The End of Faith, Sam Harris argues that pacifism is a fallacy, combining created by the actions of direct activists. Ultimately, his book suggest just and humane action must be taken in order to reduce the total suffering of sentient beings.
Pacifism is pro fascist turned inside-out by people who want to come out smelling and feeling better by being so blantantly self-righteous. You are either on one side or the other. Anything in between is cowardice at its best. Anything in between is icing on cake. Anything in between is hypocrisy and anything in between is the lowest form of disloyalty.
So pacifism is so much like apathy. You pretend to care, by insisting to watch and leave it to the soldiers, to your own kind, tour team. You sit and listen to the mayhem and shout "I am a pacifist!" as if it is something to be grateful for. You sit and listen while others throw their strength on the battlefield and you think you are helping by keeping your mouth shut when in fact you are only afraid to stand up and defend those you think are worth defending. Because by choosing, you think you come across as yet another crazy someone criticized by the other side, one of the targets, and declaring yourself unsafe to the wrath of others. But what do you expect? What do we expect?
Turn the other cheek, is what people who call themselves pacifists wants to encourage. Well yours is not the only cheek on the line. What about those behind you? Is it right to turn them in too? No battle can even turn out peaceful. No cause can be successful without a damn good fight. No person, no group, people nor country should warrant the safety and protection of their principles or their fellowman at the expense of pacifism. It's worse than lying. Lying to others and lying to yourself.
As it had been argued, you can never be in between. You know that. We know that. Somewhere deep down, we take sides. At the end of the day, no matter how much we mean well two both sides, we always have a greater spot for only one side. That which we believe in. That which we feel strongly protective of. That which we owe a kind of loyalty that cannot and should not be broken. That which are consider ours. Think again. There are no pacifists in this world. Only cowards.
