TSA: Ban First, Think Later

in palnet •  5 years ago  (edited)

The TSA recently banned the new Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge Coke bottles from being transported on checked or carry-on bags.

After the agency had been asked on Twitter if the bottles could be transported safely through security, they responded by confirming that they aren't allowed.

Some individuals admitted that they were still able to transport theirs without any problems.

There is no danger, only refreshment...

But now, the TSA has since reversed their ban on the toy bottles, after having realized the silliness of it all.

The special bottles are being sold at Disney's Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge lands. And now after a review, the TSA have now decided that they should treat the items as "oversized liquid" rather than a potential danger because they resemble any weapon.

It's a shame that it took more than one person and a 'review' of the Coke bottles before some common sense might be deployed here.

Better Safe Than Sorry...

There are guides that you can find online which instruct you on what you might or might not be allowed to bring across security. And also various reports to be found which have demonstrated the shortcomings of the current security screenings which have allowed people to pass through on more than one occasion with dangerous items that could inflict harm.

There is arguably more farce than sense to the operation.

As one former TSA agent has previously admitted:

"It was a job that had me patting down the crotches of children, the elderly and even infants as part of the post-9/11 airport security show," - J. Harrington

Regardless of the different guides you might find of what is acceptable to travel with, it's still reported on the official TSA site that it is ultimately up to the discretion of the individual officer to determine whether something can come across.

Coke bottles didn't make it and it wouldn't be the first time, though some Coke products will now no longer be considered a threat.
