The title of Kellner’s anthology of 6 keyboard suites, Certamen Musicum, literally means Musical Contest. The works are very demanding. The number of suites can vary in number. There are the ‘regular’ Allemandes, Courants, Sarabandes and Gigues to which he adds other movements eg Preludes, Fugues, Marches etc. I have already recorded no 5 in E and eventually intend to do record the other four. I believe that this recording is a first ever on clavichord. The instrument upon which I play is from my personal keyboard collection. It was built in 2013 by Marc Nobel after an original from 1787 by the Swedish maker Pehr Lindholm.

I did not know Kellner wrote 6 partitas. And very good ones as well. At least this one. Looking forward to more of them.

He wrote a set called the Certamen Musicum. Very demanding. I have recorded no 5 in E and this was presented in groups of movements. I’ll progressively post them.
