This is caught on video. A 25-year-old man cold cocked a 72-year-old Asian women. The 25-year-old man was arrested. It's reported that he was recognized by police from previous incidents -- which means that this wasn't his first rodeo. The police arrest him for elderly abuse and a hate crime. They kick it over to the DA's office, and the first thing that Pamela Price does is drop the hate crime charge.
Now, in general, as a matter of principle, I don't like hate crime enhancements. The thing is, Pamela Price does like them.
Anybody with a passive awareness of her record knows that, if the attacker were white, she would have kept the hate crime charge, she'd probably add assault and battery for good measure, and I personally think that cases like this should come with something resembling attempted murder charges. Much younger people have died or been severely injured because some dick bag thought it would be fun to sucker punch them. If you can't prepare yourself for a hit, you're at the mercy of what your body decides to do. This woman easily could have fallen in a way in which she would bang her head on the sidewalk, fracture her skull, and either be dead or permanently disabled.
What will be interesting/horrifying is the fact that, in California elder abuse can either be prosecuted as a misdemeanor or a felony. Somehow, since the bad guy in this story is black, and Pamela Price is a fucking racist, I'm willing to bet that she only charges him with a misdemeanor punishable by up to a year in jail. Even if she pursues felony charges, in California, this monster could be out in fewer than three years.
I kinda figured that elder abuse would be a more serious crime. When I first Googled it, I was taken to Georgia's penalties because I'm in Georgia right now, and elder abuse here is punishable by up to twenty years in prison. That seems more fitting.
If there's one thing that every man who has any hope of being good has learned at some point in his life, it's that you don't put your hands on a woman unless she wants you to, it's your responsibility to protect those who are physically weaker than you, and that there's nothing less manly than preying on people who are weaker than you.
A man who would commit a completely unprovoked attack on an elderly woman, presumably because of her race, is the lowest form of scum. Still, Pamela Price wants this guy back on the streets attacking Asian ladies again as soon as possible.
