So today's musing minute..
The pandemic has accelerated the development and diffusion of communication software, more specifically, software to facilitate communication in groups - meetings, including classrooms.
It seems to me, with the advent of the vaccines and other prophylactics and better treatments, and having grossly underestimated the costs of severe social restrictions, public policy is settling into a much less draconian profile. The authorities will probably speak less and do less about the disease (barring some horribly destructive mutation).
So, considering universities going forward, I am wondering what the policies will be with regard to "getting back into the classroom". We have learned that you don't have to be there "to be there". Remote is more convenient and more economical for the students. From a pedagogical point of view, however, there is a price to pay for not having students in the flesh.
Given the interacting decision-makers and the diverse incentives they face, how will the trade off be made?
