There’s one colour that people tend to associate with Prince – and the Purple One has now been honoured with his own official shade.
The late artist, who died in April 2016 at the age of 57, developed a keen affection for the colour purple during his career, most notably making it his own with the joint album and film Purple Rain (1984).
Prince’s legend now has an official colour scheme after The Pantone Color Institute, which organises colours for printing and graphic design, unveiled a new hue in his honour.
Dubbed ‘Love Symbol #2’, the new shade was inspired by the purple colour of his signature Yamaha piano.
Speaking about the new colour, Pantone vice-president Laurie Pressman said that the company were ‘honoured’ to develop a new shade in memory of the late musician.
‘A musical icon known for his artistic brilliance, Love Symbol #2 is emblematic of Prince’s distinctive style,’ Pressman said.
‘Long associated with the purple family, Love Symbol #2 enables Prince’s unique purple shade to be consistently replicated and maintain the same iconic status as the man himself.’

Pantone worked closely with Prince’s estate in developing the new colour, with the estate’s entertainment adviser Tony Carter saying: ‘The color purple was synonymous with who Prince was and will always be.
‘This is an incredible way for his legacy to live on forever.’
