About the Olympic opening ceremony.

At first, I too was aghast by the Olympic opening ceremony. But after some reflection, I have to admit that it was fitting for both France and the Olympics.

For example, this was a reference to a Renaissance painting depicting a celebration of the gods of Olympus.

The blue guy is supposed to be Bacchus, the god of festivity, insanity, ritual madness. Perfectly fitting for a historically Greek religious and athletic festival.
