SECS21W1 Basic Concepts and Utensils for baking.

Steem greetings from my motherland country Cameroon 🇨🇲.It’s a great pleasure and opportunity participating in this week’s teaching lesson contest .Focused on “concepts and utensils for baking . A special thanks to all the course facilitators for bringing out this introductory basic concepts to be discuss.

As a lover of pastries it’s the most basic things for beginners, to know first baking tools ,ingredients and techniques. Going through the explanations given through this course outline lessons .I will share my thoughts based on the guided questions given.

I hope you all will find pleasure reading through my post .Follow me in the below 👇🏼 section as I explain.

After reading the basic terms of baking,I would mentioned Atleast three basic terms use in baking .That we’re not included in the lists

Follow the the course outline and lectures of baking ,utensils and tools .Different baking term mentioned but some few where not mentioned like Decoration,Cream and fold .

Deocoration

This mostly applies after baking for instance after baking a caking .You can use fondant incongruous or buttercream icing to decorate a cake with it .Either by covering it with beautiful decorative creative edible flowers or mold design fondant. It could still be using your hand to bring out crafted designs with fondant place on the cake to make it beautiful.

whip

Most cases whipping or creaming take place .When you want to beat or cream your eggs until it has a fluffy texture.Mostly it can be done using hand whisk or a machine whisk head .

Also,cream can be the mixture of butter ,sugar and eggs .incorporating them together by mixing it and achieving that light fluffy milky soften look.

Fold

Fold is usually derived when mixing a batter used a spatula to scrape the side and the bottom of the bowl to pile the bottom one on top of the bowl .It also applies gathering your mixed ingredients together on another one .

From the lists of the basic Utensils mentioned,Can you tell us which ones you have at home .Did I mentioned Atleast three utensils you consider for baking and that you don’t have at home .Share with us images of the utensils

I have the following baking Utensil at home,which are ;

  • Machine mixer

I have this at at home helps me to ease my work as a pastry business person .I take less time to mixed my dough,batter ,beat eggs .This machine mixer does a lot of work at the same that it take hours to be done by hand . It’s served as mixer and machine mixer .Even my fondant icing mixture and buttercream not forgetting meringue.I do them using this machine .

  • Pastry set brush

I use this to grease my cake pan with it when I want to bake .I applied magerine inside the cake pan and applied abit of flow so it does not stick while baking.

  • Meauring Cups and spoons

These help me to measure the quality of ingredients I want to use for particular pestries .It serves you not using more or less than quantity you are required to use. It can flour , Flavours ,baking powder etc.

  • cupcakes pans/cup cake liners

I have smaller cup cakes designs ,I usually used to bake cakes in this pans using cup cake liners .It’s essential of the liners is make cake came well without sticking .It’s act as baking paper for small pans cakes as well.

  • Machine mixer

Also I use it to mixed smaller quantity of ingredients inside . Such as best my eggs , butter,magerine and sugar .It’s served faster in mixing your batter or ingridents

  • Mold
    These mold helps in the decorating part of cakes .Especially with fondant icing ,royal icing .It’s helps me to move beautiful designs on the cake .

  • Letter cutters

It helps designing various letters on the cake .Especially fondants icing and giving out a beautiful sharp .The letters are mostly writing someone name or expression on the cake .Very shorts letters of words like “Happy birthday mother”.

Oven

Oven I used is baking my pastries I think it’s very difficult and stressful baking without oven .Oven it’s an important baking equipment for me .

The basic utensils needed that I don’t have at home.
  • Digital Meauring scale:My measuring scale recently got bad right now am using Meauring cups to do my measurements.Hoping for my scale fixed soon .

  • Square pan cake most of my pan cakes have love shapes and round shapes .

  • Pastry bags : This untensil is very important to me especially doing decoration using nozzles head but I hardly do buttercream.Mostly I do fondant and royal icing.This because most people who live around me love it .

What in gradients ,do you have in your pantry and their equivalent price on steem

The following ingredients I have in my pantry.

I have the Edible colors use for icing sugar decoration and for baking .This help to beautify the look of your cake .I always buy it in bulk so that I can use for long . I can 8 dozens of carton of different colors .Each contain 12 amounting to 30000CFA Cameroon currency equivalent to 303 steem now.

Also,I have magerine butter 25kg cost 19000cfa Cameroon currency to equivalent to steem currency 191 steem. Also, 5kg bag of flour equivalent 3000CFA Cameroon money equivalent to 30 steem.

Lastly, .Flavours coconuts,orange , lemon,milk ,caramel and vanilla flavors.All in
half liters .one cost 5500 to 6000CFA Cameroon currency for the 6 Flavors half liters is equivalent to 318 steem .Cameroon currency 31500CFA. 1tray eggs 3000CFA equivalent to 30steem.

How do you think a good pastry chef can be defined .By having tools or by buying extensive knowledge and techniques in pastry making

Knowledge and techniques in pastry making as a chef is very important.It’s good to have a mastery and knowledge of what you are doing or producing for people consumed .Knowledge is power in any thing we do .There fire a pastry chef need a good’s knowledge of Utensils use , various ingredients, art of designing or presentation .

Effects and the importance of what ever thing you do .Need to creative and original making your work perfect and quality from others .Consistence , patience ,determination and patience .Should be the watch words of a pastry chef.

Nevertheless, I having tools will also facilitate your work and ease it for as a pastry baker .Therefore, it’s important when knowledge is acquired to applied it , one as a pastry chef need the tools .

Sabes que si hay que tener paciencia 🤭 yo no soy muy experta en la cocina pero cuando uno hace algo con cariño y pausadamente sin perder el control todo sale bien, creo que los utensilios bien utilizados nos ayuda a que salga el pastel deseado por eso es bueno tener lo básico para trabajar y no desperdiciar ingredientes, veo que tienes un armamento jeee eso te debe apasionar y de seguro son deliciosos tus postres !!!

Trabajar con un fondant para mí es una gran habilidad que demuestra el arte que se ve en la repostería con el glaseado ni se diga, a veces no provoca cortar un pedazo de lo lindo que queda la decoración pero luego recuerdo que no se puede perder algo tan delicioso 🤭

Saludos amiga, wuau no soy repostera pero con todo lo que he visto, tienes mucho conocimiento en el mismo, me parece bien tu participación, estos desafio es para todo aquel que desee participar, he visto en otros desafíos donde personas diestra en el ramo y con conocimiento también han participado, te felicito realmente yo te hubiera dado 10/10, pero no soy la docente jajajaja, por que he visita que tienes aun mas ingredientes como equipo y utensilios de repostería que otros, a parte estás veo que estas en pleno proceso elaborando un pastel, voy a seguir tus post me llamo mucho la atención tu publicación, unque no voy a participar por que no cuento con los equipos necesarios y menos después de leer algunos post jajaja, suerte bella y Bendiciones
