Hi everyone here again with you, I'm happy to share this week homework task Shown to us by @Lunasilver, in this post I drafted 4 different basic skirt pattern, there all unique and I will show you how I drafted it. In this pattern drafting I am using inches instead of centimeters Below are the patterns 👇
PENCIL SKIRT
Pencil skirt is named for it's shape slim and fitting straight skirt with narrow cut. To draft this pattern let's see some of the materials needed;
•Pattern paper
•Pencil
•Eraser
• Measuring tape
• Book
•Ruler
• Body measurements
STEP 1 : Input of the vertical line body measurements
Here I first of all mark the skirt length which is 24 inches long plus 1.5 folding allowance, next I inputted vertical line body measurements listed below.
Waist-hip point -8"
Waist - knee width 18"
Waist -skirt length 24"
STEP 2: I mark my body circumference as listed below;
Waist 27"
Hip 38"
Knee width 31"
The body circumference is divided by 4
So I inputted all the measurements and connect all points. For the back pattern I duplicated the front patter to get the back pattern , the only difference between the front is that I added zipper allowance to the back.
Please note that I didn't add seam line to the pattern so while I transferred the pattern I added 2 inches seam line to it.
A-LINE SKIRT
The type of skirt that is fitted at the hips and gradually widens towards the hem is an A-line
skirts. To draft this type of skirt you need your waist ,hip and the skirt length measurement .
To get started I mark skirt length followed by the vertical line body measurements as usual, after which I join the point and slightly extend out flare to get the A shape.
It is very simple to draft both the front pattern and the back, after I drafted out the front, I duplicated front to get back and added 1 inche allowance from the waist to hip point and extend it to meet the down hem.
STRAIGHT SKIRTS
straight skirt has a looser fit compared to a pencil skirt, falling straight down from the hips without tapering.
This style conveys a more tailored and professional look. I use a simple method to drafts this type of skirt. To begin I mark out my hip measurement to determine what to fold and avoid waisting the material, so I divided my hip by 4 and add 3 inches allowance. I mark out all the point starting from my waist -hip, waist -knee and waist to the skirt length. This is the first thing I did while drafting the skirt. Next I mark out full body measurements which I divided by 4+3 inches seam line. After which I connected all the point , note this skirt is not skimpy so from the hip point I drew a straight line to meet
the skirt length and cut out the skirt. For my darts line I use a constant book to know my darts line. Constant is divided by 2+ half inches for joining. I also repeated the method and cut the back skirt.
THE KIND OF SKIRT I WILL LIKE TO DESIGN IS A FOUR PIECES SKIRT
I like this type of skirt because it gives interesting shape to the body contour,it is a style I pay attention to it's beautiful designs that gives a charming beauty to the wearers.
