Remembering Edgar Allan Poe
He was an American writer, poet, critic and romantic journalist
Poe invented the detective story, perfected the horror tale, and first articulated the theory of the modern short story
as well as the idea of pure poetry
Poe has never been entirely respectable to American critics because of two causes: Being too eccentric, and too popular among common readers
Among his most famous works are The Raven, The Black Cat or The Tell-Tale Heart
