I still absolutely defend the right of pharmaceutical companies to advertise. Still, if I wanna steelman an argument for regulating advertising, that would be it. I'm never going to ask my doctor if a drug is, "right for me." If I have a problem with how my body is functioning, I'm gonna let my doctor try to figure out what the right treatment is.

I don't believe that it's even a significant minority of doctors who chose to become doctors just to make money hand over fist by exploiting addicts, just like I don't believe that most teachers become teachers in order to sexually abuse children. Still, those people exist.
We need to remember that your chosen career doesn't make you a hero or trustable. In fact, it's the people in careers who we're supposed to trust the most who are in a place to hurt us the most.
