$30-100 is the cost of a tattoo under 2 inches.
$50-250 is the average cost of a 2-4 inch tattoo.
$150-450 is the average cost of a 4-6 inch tattoo.
$500-4,000 is the average cost of a tattoo over 6 inches.

Tattoo artists in the US average an hourly rate of $120-150 an hour, with some experts being noticeably higher than that.

36% of US adults between 18-30 have over one or more tattoos.
74% of American’s as a whole don’t have any tattoos.

72% of adults with tattoos have them concealable with clothing and the minority of tattoos are always visible.

The reason I’m writing this is Pete Davidson.

Pete Davidson for his relationship with Kim Kardashian got multiple tattoos.

One said “My girl is a lawyer”, the next had her kids initials and the final one was “Jasmine & Aladdin”.

They just broke up and I wanted to get an idea of the cost of tattoo removal he’ll face.

Looked this up and found it generally takes 6-8 sessions to remove a tattoo.

Pete Davidson has small tattoos, but even tattoos with just initials that are 1-4 inches long can still take up to six sessions for complete removal.

Looked up the cost of tattoo removal and found the cost varies a lot, similar to the cost of getting a tattoo to begin with.

Small tattoos have an average cost of $200 per session.
Large tattoos cost between $500-2,000 a session.

Pete Davidson having three tattoos on different parts of his body, would mean he should expect six sessions per section, for eighteen total sections.

The price tag being $3,600.

Why this is important?

1.6 billion dollars is how much American’s spend on tattoos yearly.

Ephemeral Tattoos was a company started in 2014, raising 27 million dollars focused on creating tattoos that only last for one year.

The product itself has had some mixed reviews, where many people complain the tattoos start fading away earlier over expected and they end up with 6-12 months of a gradually fading tattoo that looks odd.

That said though, surveys show 78% of people with tattoos regret at least one of them and the biggest reason people don’t get tattoos is them being permanent and it’s a risk of feeling.

Sort of like an SNL comedian getting tattoos dedicated to a reality star and breaking up not even a year in.

Ephemeral might not be the perfect product, but this is an industry worth researching and developing better tools on for tattoos that might last 3-10 years or if possible, can be replenished easily, versus go away without reversal.

There’s the Pete Davidson example, which any company to seriously solve this problem becomes an auto billion dollar business.
