Peterborough, England

I decided to drive up to Peterborough and walked the entire city (or at least I felt like it) to see the buildings, streets, sidewalks and the people. The vendors were out and you could buy just about anything you want or need, from candy to handmade goods. There were department stores as well. It is an old somewhat of an industrial town with a train station in the city center.

I spent a few days in and around the city, eating at the restaurants, shopping and attending festivals ofvarious types like one called:

Around the world in 80 plates – a fun time with plenty of food.

This was a festival I stumbled upon during my travels and decided to head over to have a look. The place was packed with vendors selling all sorts of food, crafts, souvenirs as well as a stage with musicians playing all day. The main tent had a variety of tables and vendors with ethnic food they prepared so visitors could sample food from their home country. It was quite good actually and I enjoyed the day eating, laying in the sun and listening to the band.

Something funny I run in to occasionally is language issues. I had walked outside the food tent to eat and listen to the band when another guy walked up and stood close by. I made some remark about the venue and he responded back. I started laughing, and said to him, “It sounds like the language you’re speaking is some form of English but unfortunately I don’t completely understand what you just said”. He had a very strong Scottish accent and took my remark in stride. He repeated what he said a bit slower and I was able to pick it up. Once I listened to him for a bit I was able to understand but initially I have to admit that accent made it brutal to communicate. It was fun and we ended up getting few laughs
