I love to paint animals. My favorite of said genre is dogs. Below are the first 10 dog portraits I ever painted and a bit about the k9s in question.
Maggie
I first met Maggie as a puppy when my friend at work brought her into the office for a few weeks before the inevitable complaint came in. Apparently some lady on another floor didn't think it was fair that our company allowed dogs so to appease her jealously she filed a complaint and ruined the puppy-fun for everyone. Isn't it great when disgruntled people achieve their goals and bring things down for all those around them? Thanks random lady on the 8th floor. You are great. Just great.
Georgie & Nikki
Depending on the day, and depending on what they ate, these guys were either brother and sister or husband and wife. Two of the most docile and friendly dogs you'd ever meet that wouldn't, or more accurately couldn't, hurt a fly. That is until the one day a neighbors' dog got aggressive towards Nikki. George showed an otherwise dormant side of himself that he must have learned from watching the Disney short film Lambert The Sheepish Lion in his earlier days.
Lenny
Look at this stud. The kid's like 8 months old and he's fully jacked. Total beast. Love his grey and white suit that he isn't afraid to muck up in the dirt. Atta'boy Lenny.
Lil' Big Guys
I call these guys the Lil'big guys because that is what they are but also because this piece was commissioned by some friendly people at the nearby dog park a few years ago and I can't recall their names. I liked using a couch here as a base to help frame and proportion their lil wee frames.
Lucy
Lucy is a sweet dog. And by all accounts, including her own, she's truly a moody bitch. But I love that about her. She gets out a lot and sees the world but she'd just as soon spend an entire day wrapped in a blanket. I condone such behavior. Good dog.
Goldie
Goldie is basically Ma from Golden Girls - a.k.a. Estelle Getty.
Little known fact: Estelle Getty, while playing the oldest character on the show Golden Girls, was in fact the youngest of the 4 main women characters on the cast.
Nina
Another loyal bitch. Look at those eyes. Longing for affection but also asserting razor sharp attention. She's ready, willing, and able to do whatever, whenever, however. Total respect.
Flylo
Meet the neighborhood genius and super athlete. Basically anything you want from this guy, he will do it. All day, everyday. Essentially if the world was made entirely of sheep he would be the most efficient machine to ever grace the earth.
