The problem is not guns. The problem is the government monopoly on force. If anyone thinks cops will cease to abuse power (not across the board, but far, far too often), or that the people aren't going to react, that person might want to consider out of the box NON-VIOLENT solutions. Rounding up all the guns is akin to rounding up all the immigrants in the sense that both would require a good deal of FORCE to accomplish (regardless of debatable morality). Instead, maybe the government antitrust department could bust up the government monopoly on force (oh, the irony). Of course, privatization of security will never happen, so get comfortable with more of the same violence as cops shoot citizens and citizens rage over the shit government product we call public safety. Remember Rodney King's beating and the ensuing riots? And Abner Louima's sodomy? Again, the bad behavior is not across the board but it is also not isolated. Competition would help immensely. So would decriminalizing weed. Also remember when NYC cops went on strike and the city got along just fine? Hmmmn. #anarchism
