Today, 14 December, is the feast of Saint John of the Cross. Living in Spain during the 1500’s, John worked with Saint Teresa of Avila to reform the Carmelite Order.

John and Teresa wanted to return to a more fundamental and less luxurious way of life. For their beliefs and work to reform the order, John was kidnapped and imprisoned by other Carmelites that did not want to change. He was even scourged on a daily basis.

Saint John of the Cross, ora pro nobis!

“The endurance of darkness is the preparation for great light.”

my fav quote by Saint John

He’s a bit deep for me (much like Aquinas or Teresa of Avila) but there are definitely some great lines from him!
