Philosophical prelude:
Paradoxical expression in the moment

.
This piece is a reflection on physicality, contentment, and meaning within one's subjective experience of reality. Writing poetry, for me, is primarily a cathartic and digestive process. It is intensely reflective of a unique present moment, that, having been experienced: fades away utterly, leaving only the poem and vague memory as detritus in its wake. I am less concerned about the end result being an enduring piece of art as I am being fully immersed in the moment of its creation. Feel free to skip this part of the post to the reading notes or to the poem below if you are not interested in reading about my approach to writing poetry.

.

This piece is part of an ongoing challenge I've issued to myself to write slightly longer pieces and maintain a sense of cohesiveness throughout. I have also taken into account the great feedback left by my wonderful readers and want to say "thanks a lot!" for your critiques and comments. They really help me stay motivated and focused as I practice daily.

.

My approach, unless I am writing a rigid form such as a sonnet, is to write a with the feeling of a "free verse" but let form coalesce organically. Inevitably, repetitive structures begin to emerge and help the piece hold together (In fact, it can sometimes be a crutch to justify rather weak expression!) Probably the strongest thread underlying all my work is the intermixed ideas of duality/nonduality/opposites/polarities/paradoxes. These are aspects of reality that cause endless fascination for me and provide infinite worlds to explore.

.

On the other hand, these are related to the confusion many feel reading my writing! For instance, I like to have certain moments that are intensely emotional and intimate. In others, I want the exact opposite: a feeling of total detachment and numbness. I cannot express a certain idea without encountering the unavoidable desire to express its opposite! For me, all concepts, however sublime, are utterly meaningless, unless they are combined with their total opposite: creating the stability and tension of polarities united.

Reading notes

.
Stanza I: They notice

Coming to terms with the past makes the present more bearable. Concepts are ultimately illusory, so when we seek to remove them, we find nothing to remove! However, the labels given us by self and other we wear with a contradictory mixture of shame and pride.

Stanza II: They watch
.
None of the extremes experienced in life can encapsulate its magnificence alone. We look for our cherished beliefs in reality and fail to find them. The eternal frustration and fascination of art, ever-falling short of being able to express the inexpressible, yet ever-stubbornly trying again and again because the awe that entrances us is so powerful beyond all else.

Stanza III: They depart
.
The absolute admires the fleeting: astonished and amused by the ignorant faith placed in that which is impermanent. In this seeming limitation, there is paradoxically limitlessness. There is no distinction that can be made between the material and the spiritual, the form and the formless— they are one and the same, everything and everyone is sacred in radical simplicity.

I. They notice

Walking through the tunnel of my past
I found the levitation of the present
.
In the kind smile
In the bent mirror
In the smog sky

.
I found transcendence of my greed.
My greed that had buried itself
Like a worm in the loom
Of my heart.
.
I rummaged for it to root it out,
But there was nothing there.
.
All the people
Watched me pantomime.
How they whispered and pointed!

.
I wore the names they gave me
Like a scalding crown of thorns.

II. They watch

Soaring through world's unreality
Enamored with fluctuations
.
I marry life
And divorce her.
I seek after death
And find everything but her.

.
I find the full meaninglessness
The void of fulfilling soleness
.
I find
Nothing valuable to me
I can begin to describe;
In forms only hatred shows.
.
It is in their formlessness that
Beauty shines with the brilliance
Of a midnight sun—

.
It makes me weep
With the glory I can neither
Understand nor bear. It is the
Secret that torments me, the mystery
Of wonder that I yearn to share.

III. They depart

(Omniscient admiration
Of the aimless sons of dust)

.
How confident the shadows of the earth!
They scurry about in frenetic scrabblings:
.
They learn, they mate, they lose, they mourn
Their chapters etched on cave walls
Both triumphant and forlorn.

.
Walking through the tombs of history
We find the suspension of judgement
.
In a skeleton
In tears of ash
In a smile of blood

.
We find the awe of the tangible.
The tangible that escapes its netting
Like a phoenix: renegade, saviour, heretic,
Guru, commoner, christ, bodhisattva, criminal:
.
Saint that walks the tunnel
Babe that speaks the past
Wind that sings the miracle
Substancelessness that ever lasts.

Thank you for the notes and this fleeting poem lost in the blockchain and found in our hearts forever. The whole poem is a paradox that enlightens the soul. Two words got me: "Saint that walks the tunnel" and "Babe that speaks the past." This is the inner nature of man. "The things I want to do I do not do and the things I don't want to do I keep doing." (St. Paul Ro 7) And "the babe that speaks the past" is the truth of all life. The nurse brings the child to me and asks, "Can you verify that you are the father?" I look into this tiny newborn's eyes and see myself and I see generations from the past. I see my father and I see more. As much as there is an innocence in the babe there is a whining hunger to survive. Out of the eternal came something ephemeral. Out of the sublime same something so simple. "I marry life and divorce her."

I live in Korea and teach in a public school so I see the Korean national flag every day. In the middle is ying and yang in the middle and complete balance on all four corners. The red part is the positive cosmic forces and the blue part is the opposing cosmic forces. The triads in the corner are the basic principals of life in harmony with nature and human beings. I labeled the flag to make it clear for you.

@d-pend I want to write one post about your writing. It will be only my reflections and how I came to find your poems. Is this OK?

@mineopoly, thank you so much for the beautiful and educational comment. I'm honored that you would dedicate a post to my writing! By all means go ahead, and share the link with me once you post it. I'd love to hear about your experience in Korea! I want to live in Japan sometime in the near future and I've studied their culture a bit, but I really don't know much at all about Korean culture.

Thanks. All I needed was your permission. I am learning from you and want to share.

skip the first part of the post??
oh, no! it's the most intersting!
Poems are wonderful but the process of their creating is not less interesting! even more for some extend. Why? Because this knowledge gives a chance to look at the secret of creative procedure, it's something magic and hidden from people's eyes. It always remains in the shadow, we just see the result - but personally I am always interested in how it was made. That's why I asked you so many questions-)) I hope you're not tired from me) You're the only poet whom I know and you're absolutely different for me, and I'm eager to know how this miracle happens.
Tell us more about it!

That's great insight @taliakerch, I'm definitely glad you get something out of the explanations. I agree with you and think it is mostly pride that causes us poets to not want to reveal the personal meaning. But also - perhaps we think it may destroy the magic, the intrigue? I think based on the reactions I have gotten, that it does not but actually enhances it!

hmmm..yes, there's sense in your words too) intrigue must be kept in any art, it must be like a box with a secret inside, individual secret for any reader. Then it's necessary to keep the border between your idea and this secret) to open the door, but not fully, just to let the light come in a little, but not to fulfill the whole room-)) Metaphors are my strong side-)) Sometimes it's only me who understand them but I'm like them-)

That is some next level poetry man :) I found myself in first 2 parts... But your way of communication is sooo proficient. Got nothing to say but highly admire it :) Respect... I can write like that but only in my native language, I hope though one day I will achieve it in English :)
Peace

I'm glad you were able to relate to it! I appreciate your words of praise. Of course, English is my mother tongue, so it is not too big an achievement :P What is your native language @enjoyinglife?

My native language is Croatian :)

I bet you never heard of it? :P

Well I actually have but I don't know the sound of it!
In fact one of my friends here on Steemit @runicar is from Cro :-D
Do you know him @enjoyinglife?

I do know him :)
He is my buddy from real life

That's are so great writing.

Everything you said about how you feel when you write your poetry and explaining how you do it as always you blow my mind, I have many poetry books and have been reading them all my life but by far the way you express yourself in your poems is supreme, Daniel you are just amazing😊 and another thing, I do love how you end your poems😊

Very cool, who are some of the poets who you have read? Thanks for all the kind words! Have a great one @cecirod1218

William Shakespeare, Edgar Allen poe, Robert frost, John Keats, shel Silverstein among some, Maya Angelou I just love poetry! Yours is complex , your one of my all time favorite poets!! Do you have a book? Oh and even Spock I had one of his poetry books mostly about love❤️

Nice selections @cecirod1218 and I'm flattered you would include me!! I don't have anything published yet, but I'm planning on taking a lot of the stuff I've written for Steemit and releasing it at some point :-D

Let me know! 😊

Hey @d-pend. I very much like the writer's commentary in this one. It is VERY helpful in evetually drawing me FURTHER into the poem then I would (likely) have been able to go without it. I believe this commentary also acts in a more INSTRUCTIVE manner for the OTHER poets who read this post. Again, just my thoughts, for whatever they're worth...

Nice. That's great to know. I think based on the responses I have received I will continue writing explanations. I used to think it would spoil the "magic" of the writing, but that seems untrue! It also helps me to understand my own process and refine it moving forward for better expression. Thanks for pushing me in my craft @transcript-junky!

Yes. I've also learned something from this exchange - primarily that it is OKAY -- or, at least in my cosmological view of the universe, "MILDY "NOT"-okay" to challenge other Steemians (within certain parameters). That is, I was starting to get a little FRUSTRATED reading your posts and WANTING to upvote them, but not being able to justify the upvote (for reasons we have discussed AND due to the fact that I need to be JUDICOUS with my SP expenditure through voting - especially as I try to upvote the full 35 per day on SteemFollower). I TOTALLY agree with you that the "explainations" section of your posts is valuable to BOTH YOU and the larger COMMUNITY. I hope that our exchange of feedback was PART of the catalyst pushing you forward for the benefit of ALL. Also, just so you know, I have ALSO been making some constructive adjustments to my content choices and delivery as well. Like I have said before, "It's all about he marketing, baby!" Keep it up...

first of all I want to say that this photo is just giptonic, the author you correctly reflect, at least my thoughts in this context are similar to yours ...
beautiful works of the poem, ... the author clearly has a talent for writing meaningful texts ... thanks I got the pleasure of reading

I really admire you and your ability to pour yourself out in words. Thanks for explaining your process, it’s really beautiful🐓

Thank you so much for taking the time to read and comment!!

you have an amazing poetic soul my friend. each and every word of your writing is deep, thoughtful and beautiful. I admire poetry, try to write now and then, but i can only dream of thinking and writing so wonderfully like you do. You have a wonderful gift and great things can be expected from you. Shine bright, shine to the full ... I has been a great privilege to have found and following you here on steemit :) May the almighty Allah bless you for eternity. Merry Christmas :)

Wow @tamurah, that is so kind of you. Perhaps you sell yourself short! I was fortunate to have some amazing English teachers who pushed me to improve my skills during high school, but I don't think much progress was made on a deeper, internal level until I began writing for myself (not for assignments) and it became a meaningful, intimate means of expression. I think that anyone who begins to write on a daily basis (and of course read, where necessary, to acquire inspiration and vocabulary) is capable of becoming an excellent writer!

I completely agree with you, to become a good writer, there's no alternative of writing for yourself on a daily basis, and reading a lot :)

The paradox of duality passes through the dust of the graves of the dull lips.
The world has become a flying carpet for mystical words, we run away from our destiny - we run away from the prayer words of our extreme.
We are all children in the eyes of eternity. You are a creative, talented and very deep thinker - Thank you for exellent poetry my friend ( If I have wrongly said something about my spiritual comprehension, it's just my experience in my 42 years )

We must speak from that which we have experienced, otherwise we are "vainly reciting!" I am always open to words of wisdom, especially from you @dobartim. Thank you!

I was aloof from the goal, but I'm going that way.

The moment is an instance of being in which our incessant searching suddenly encounters an echo, in which everything seems to give itself at once, once and for all. That is the special experience that the paradoxical expression “moment of eternity” conveys.
Great poem, and great reading too!

Thanks for the Upvote and your support! Looks like the Steemit community values poetry and art. This is a great venue to publish your work! Beautiful words that made me think outside of my normal experience. Upvoted!

Good post... I liked the longer version today and the pictures were spot on like usual. Well done.

Hey man thanks for the feedback and of course all your support!

Oh yes, your style in poetry is original and I understand that you find inspiration in unusual places and from unusual things. You express your inner nature through poems, as you see it, this is the author's individuality. Thank you @d-pend and happy Christmas!

Thanks for the comment @serkagan. Merry Christmas!

Beautiful post.

I like the way you structured your words. Innovative and inventive. It goes with the saying that poetry is what we make of it.

Thanks very much @pharouq66. Quite true!

Wow!! I fall in love of your poetry. you are so talent. Good writer.

Glad you like it @akilasultana373! Thank you!

Thou are not false, but thou art fickle,. To those thyself so fondly sought: The tears that thou hast forced to trickle. Are doubly bitter from that thought: 'Tis this which breaks the heart thou greivest,. Too well thou lov'st --- too soon thou leavest.
