TODAY IS NATIONAL SIMPLICITY DAY!

Life offers us the opportunity to celebrate every day. Today in honor Henry David Thoreau’s Birthday, it is National Simplicity Day! Thoreau spent time living a simplistic life in a small cabin, in Walden Woods, in Concord, Massachusetts. In today’s modern world, we are busier than ever and own more things than previous generations. But what is it really costing us?

AT WHAT COST?

In the modern world,
we are often hurled,
into a busy life,
that creates strife.
Our fascination with technology,
has changed our ideology.
We think we are connected,
but we have been affected,
our thinking has changed,
we have become estranged.
There is less personal interaction.
Do we get any satisfaction,
from our continuous need,
of checking a social media feed?
From the texting,
instead of connecting,
with a person in the same room?
It causes me to feel gloom.
Thoreau can teach us a lesson,
that will be a blessing.
He was in favor,
of simplicity and nature,
which allowed him to look inward,
resulting in no longer being hindered
Then he used his writing talent,
urging nature and culture be balanced.
Today people lack a balanced mind,
because technology has confined,
their way of thinking,
oblivious to time ticking,
they lose the experience of the moment.
Is it a full life, without this component?
