I've seen a picture on a site that attracted my attention, in the picture, there are apes, dogs, tigers, elephants, and fish. Zebra, the teacher, tests by assessing how quickly they climb trees. That's impossible. Fish may not be able to climb trees and it is an unfair test. But it can be an extreme picture of the world of education in Indonesia when the ability of each student is assessed in a uniform. Every student must be good at Mathematics, Physics, Biology or must be good at History, Economics, Geography and other subjects.

If we look at education in developed countries, the striking difference is a fairly balanced proportion between academic and extracurricular activities. In America, students can learn and can develop their hobbies in sports, music or acting. And even they can easily enter university with his achievements in extracurricular activities. In Indonesia, students are almost daily occupied with the density of lessons. Extracurricular activities are just a one-week exercise. The lack of means to channel the hobby makes the students channel it to negative things.

Back to the fish problem. With no fish can climb trees does that mean he is stupid? Certainly not. If the test in the form of swimming ability, of course, he who got the highest score. Indonesia's education world is still not able to answer the fish problem. Students are measured only from academic ability alone. So, what about students who have the less academic ability but are good at soccer, basketball or music? He will only be considered an ordinary stupid student.
