How many times have you watched arguments unfold in the comments sections of posts on social media? There's always someone who is just plain nasty and when they're called out on it they'll say something about it being a public platform and they can express their opinion if they want. While this doesn't justify them being a complete butthole, they do have a point and that point is that if you're discussing things publicly you're going to have to deal with people who disagree with you and not everyone is reasonable about it.
When I decided to start sharing on social media I was aware that there might be people who didn't agree with what I was sharing. I could have just joined private groups to share with other like minded people and I do that too. However, I also wanted to spread the word that you can grow food and keep livestock in your home garden without having lots of land. I've had some great feedback from people who have been inspired to do similar things because of what I've shared, but there are also those who will tell me I shouldn't be doing what I'm doing. On some platforms I can delete nasty comments, but on others I can't, so I find ignoring them the best approach if they have nothing constructive to offer.

Steemit is very much a public platform and you have no control over other's comments. Only they can choose to edit or remove them. So if you're sensitive to criticism then maybe not share anything controversial. On the other hand if you enjoy verbal battles and slanging matches, post away and stir the pot!
I guess the thing to decide is are you wanting to share a message or just share with like minded people. If it's the latter, then join a private group where any argumentative people can be kicked out if they're upsetting others. If you want to share a message, then an uncensored platform like Steemit is a great place to do so and most of the time, even if others disagree with what you're saying, they are reasonable enough to have a civil discussion. You'll just need to develop a way to deal with the aggressive ones.

This'll be the only social media site I'll let my kids use when they're 13-17; because everything is public and I can flag bullies. (I can also monitor their posts and comments in case they're the one doing the bullying)
I'm starting to wonder, though if the relative lack of comments on Steem posts are a result of the environment.
We say we want a kind, supportive culture; but what if we really love the conflict and drama of a flame war on a facebook post?

Conflict, drama and gossip are most people's entertainment, so I think many people do enjoy it! However, I don't think those sorts are as attracted to sites like Steemit. It's not a simplistic site and takes a but more nous to work things out on here. Or am I just sounding pretentious now? Lol!

Does it still qualify as 'Pretentiousness' if you're genuinely better than everyone else? Like we are?

Some posts invite argument (direct invite or just a persons controversial view) - freedom of speech I think is sooo important and we shouldn't take it personally if people disagree...like you have written as long as we are civil about it, everyone deserves and can have a say.
Your subject specialty is really interesting and I think everyone could learn at least something, I know I have :)

I would really like to know how you are doing what you are doing. You must have a post about it. I can't seem to find that post, guess it's the way with steemit(steemit still lacks a way to search through the posts efficiently).
Also i am very much thankful for your support as always. I came to know that you sponsored me for steembasicincome. I don't know how to repay you. All i can give you are good posts for your belief in me, i guess.

I'm not sure what you mean here, but if you're talking about my upvotes I have to admit that I've been very lucky to be supported by a great Australian community, who are quite strong now. I was also welcomed into a homesteading community shortly after I started and while they were fairly new, the moral support was great and the community has grown.
I see you are working with some photography communities. Stick with them and they will grow. It just takes time and support.
It does, but changes are on their way, so hopefully this will improve
I sponsored you because I feel you have the determination and the right attitude to stick around on here long term. You are focusing on building your account and that's great. The steembasicincome vote will always reach you when I can't because my Voting Power is low, so it benefits me in that way and I also get shares from sponsoring you.
Photography is a hard area to build up here. Rewards tend to be higher with written work. You're doing well though. I see you've won some of the @photocontests.
And that's the best result I could ask for! 😊

I was asking about homesteading and your journey, i thought it was an obvious one(lol i am so naive). Also i think i read in one of your posts that your children are home schooled, would like to learn more about that as well.

🤣 I completely missed the mark then!
I have saved some links, but need to update them. This is a good reminder for me.
This was my intro post about how we started homesteading
I haven't written lots on homeschooling, but this is why we homeschool
It would be so much easier if I could categorise them for easier access.
