I LOVE this guy. One thing about him that's not well-known, is he would attempt to copy the writing style of someone he admired, in the hope that something of the other person's brainpower would "rub off." Meaning, he would try to copy how the person crossed his t's, dotted his i's. formed his a's and c's. He was practicing a form of brain-training before anybody had a word for it.
