[Solosophy] Who am i(and thank you for the support!)

in philosophy •  8 years ago  (edited)

G'day guys! how are you doing today? ^_^

So, my first post didn't go so smoothly, I had a Spotify track embedded and a little page separator underneath it. As soon as i posted i realised my thumbnail was a page separator xD, when I tried to edit it I realised a lot of things did not look the same as they were a couple minutes ago, so I had to try to ignore it, which I did for a few moments and then tried to fix it regardless so it kinda ruined it. hopefully, I get it a little better this time xD

that being said, there was so much support, thank you very much for welcoming me, I am a bit of a recluse and usually pretty anti-social so all that support really helped boost my confidence, I hope I can keep it up ^_^

P.s I saw a lot of posts yesterday about sources and such, I was making sure to link to anything I suggested was factual but I wasn't thinking the same thing with the images and stuff, I usually just right click and google search images I kinda considered it redundant at first but I know it's not always reliable so I'll start linking more actively, if I miss something and you want please let me know :)

here is our 2nd Solosophy, in this one we are exploring the age old question, probably the first question in consciousness, our concept of self and identity.

if you haven't got some on already, let's set the mood with a little music ^_^

if you like this and want to check him out you can subscribe his youtube here or harass him to make a steemit and we can make requests :)

Who am I?

so, who am I? simple enough question to ask oneself, but let's really take a second out to think about this, well I could just answer "Sol", but that doesnt really tell us much does it?; a name is a kind of symbol, kind of like an ancient egyptian heiroglyph, they dont really explain but remind us, we kind of need to already know what it is first, or we just ask "who's that?"

so how could we answer this question?
what kind of question is it?
what kind of answer are we looking for?
maybe it's a trick question? xD

the body? :
if we were to disregard anything but the physical world we can touch and feel, well then it's easy! just point to my body and say, that's a Sol!.. but what happens if I cut my hair, will I be less of me? ok maybe the hair is a bad example, but how about a limb? or several? how about a Futurama head? or if we go Cybernetics in an effort to compete with A.I and were all like Robocop
or what happens when I age? if I have an out of body experience is that an out of myself experience? how could I leave myself to go experience something somewhere else? who's experiencing it?

apparently our bodies have completely renewed themselves every 7 years. meaning today, I am a completely new person in respect to the cells that make up my body, the old set has aged, passed and made way for the new cells.

so which one is more me? 7 years ago, or today? or 7 years from now?

though this may be a bit of a myth, there are said to be exceptions In this whole process, one example is the brain's development pattern during all this, they say, a majority of the neurons in the brain are developed before birth and then at several stages in the person's development, in our early childhood and teenage years we are said to have an increased production and possibly some neurogenesis in different stages in adulthood in particular sections

Another good example is teeth, I kinda wish we could regenerate this one but I guess we need to keep up the dental maintenance.

the mind?
Now, the mind is a different beast altogether isn't it? xD
Sometimes we don't know where our mind is, or we just can't seem to make it up, we can change it if we like, but does that mean it's not us? how can we be our mind and change it?

the mind though seems to be a kind of "black box" we kinda know different components impact the way we think, it's not just the power of an idea is it? think about the difference in your own personal response to the same idea in different scenarios,
a really good one your response to food while you're hungry and when you're full. I often get a good laugh when I see people that have piled on all that food and when they're "done" they literally push the play away from themselves, if you offer any more food, sometimes even desert, you can immediately see the expression of disgust on their face, as if to say"how could you even think that"

sometimes our mind, our ideas, they change in a moment, sometimes we can change our ideas in a day, sometimes we change them in some weeks, sometimes in different stages of life.

here's a funny one I think about, when I was in first grade, we had to line up outside the school building and walk to class. the teachers made us hold hands with the person next to us, all the guys including myself would line up quickly so we didn't have to hold any of the girl's hands that may have happened to arrive late. lol

the soul?
long have people questioned even the very existence of the soul since we can't point at it or pull it out to show anyone, it's kind of difficult to exactly prove it's there, but we know there's something we can refer to. is it my say, my intelligence or emotional state? is it actually not even something unto itself but just the mind, its associations and our memories? or is it our energy and how we focus it? my attention? in a sense isn't that what consciousness is? the state of being aware? so if I'm unaware, in a state of ignorance lets say, does that make me in a sense not conscious? ok maybe that's not pushing the boundary enough, how about when we are unconscious, like anesthesia or a UFC knockout blow, you might get a tooth knocked out, can you have your soul knocked out too?

every different religion and belief system has a different idea about what the soul is and what happens to it during life and in death but here's an interesting theory put forth some in the late 80's that pin's consciousness to a quantum process which seems to be getting more and more supported, but here let Mr. Freeman explain it to you

WARNING: there is a brain operation in the video, it may grose you out

the difficulty in finding an anwer?
so, they all play an important part and its difficult to dismiss any part of it, though I guess the biggest difficulty is in focusing on a perspective, if we are unsure, we can loop, but if we know what we are looking for maybe it's not as hard, I am to me as I interpret myself to be and to you as you see me physically and emotionally, atleast for now...

what do you think?

here's a good one from the guys at ted-ed

I am a thousand winds that blow.
I am the diamond glints on snow.
I am the sunlight on ripened grain.
I am the gentle autumn rain.

This is from a poem called Do not stand at my grave and weep, but thought i relates good. As we are merely a fraction of the entire universe and our souls are infinite :)

Great article. Who am I is the fundamental question. Ultimately it leads to non-duality, till then, it helps us contemplate who we are and why we are here.

non duality?

I can only try to answer. Generally we are caught up in the world around us and are asleep, our sense of self is diffuse and ever changing based on whatever captures our attention. Accidentally, through effort or via grace or a gift from above we may come a different sense of self in which we sense ourselves and what we are observing at the same time, this is the gateway between sleep and non-duality and is also rare. In we are lucky in this life, we may connect with all that is in a meaningful way in which time and space are changed and our sense of self is no longer separated from what is. Words seldom describe it but a common term is non-duality, not two. In each case, who am I takes on a new meaning.

interesting!
