Sittin' Up with the Dead Blog - Post 001 - Stuff You Don't Want To Know

in philosophy •  9 years ago  (edited)

"The kind of stuff folks just don't want to know about."

This blog has been goaded into being by the mere existence of Steemit ...and the gallingly successful efforts of two of my more prolific intellectual sparring partners:

Forrest Snyder’s “Flashes of the Obvious”
Dave Edstrom’s “Photons and Electrons”

The title Sittin' Up With the Dead Blog is not as immediately appealing as those above – you’ll think it strange. But, the punster in me is particularly pleased with it. You see, it’s a quadruple entendre!
It has four different meanings, all of which apply precisely to the expansive territory I hope to cover.

It should take several posts spanning that territory to leave enough clues for most to discover all four meanings. If you think you can name those meanings in fewer posts, add your best guesses to the comments section. I’ll reveal my intended entendres in Post #005.

Clue # 1. The first clue is found in a line from the lyrics of the classic YouTube video by Ray Stevens which inspired the name of this blog and its highly relevant tag line.

Songs you may know by Ray Stevens
The Streak
The Mississippi Squirrel Revival
Everything is Beautiful
Sittin’ up with the Dead

Of course, one might question the mass appeal of a blog based on “… the kind of stuff folks just don’t want to know about.”

Indeed. Why would I expect any up votes for that?

God I love Ray Stevens. Also recommend Red Peters and sometimes Pinkard & Bowden.

Since the post is musically inclined I'll guess one of the entendres refers to the band from San Francisco.

Why?

I want more of this. Teru Teru Bozu my friend.

Teru Teru Bozu?

just tag it as #philosophy they will vote for y-

nvm

I don't mind knowing that people have had major surgery, but I usually say no when they ask me if I want to see the scars :-)
