Japanese traditional roofing

IMG_9508.jpeg

I don’t know if this style of Japanese roofing is strictly Japanese, or there is a Chinese influence as well. The fact is, that you can see this almost everywhere in Japan. The tiles are looking as a piece of art. Of course, you can have very different compositions with these various shapes, heights. They seem like they are playing with each other... Tre roofs, I mean... of course!

The intricate design and the craftsmanship is unreal in lots of traditional buildings!! Now we live in stupid boxes made out of inferior materials... where did we go wrong? I would love to return to building everything in the true traditional way.
